He is the son of José Sixto Z. and Angeline González Dantes. Dantes began his career as a child model, appearing in a dairy product commercial when he was two years old. Several other commercials followed before he became part of an all-male dance group called Abztract Dancers, with his friend, actor Dino Guevarra, and his cousin, actor, Arthur Solinap. Their group became regulars on Eat Bulaga! and That's Entertainment. 

In 2008, he was cast by his home studio to play the role of Fredo, love interest in Dyesebel. In March 2008, he debuted as the Bench image model.

On 22 August 2008, Dantes was chosen as one of the "25 Sexiest Men of the World" He holds the title as "The third sexiest man in the World." in the Entertainment Television special. Dantes was the only Filipino in the list and the highest-ranking Asian, placing third. 

Dingdong Dantes and Maria Rivera are very much in love with each other, no doubt about it, but based on the latest report, they are thinking of renewing their contract to GMA-7 or not. According to some observers, they should think twice before they make a decision regarding their showbiz careers.
